My how times flies….

Has it really been three months since my last blog?

What can I say… Tempus Fugit (time flies). I have been busy in my new role with APDT (The Association of Pet Dog Australia Inc). and as I am not one to over commit myself, my blogging has taken a backseat.

We hear mainly about people being “time poor” in this day and age, so I guard my time like a Rottweiler these days. It is not often you hear people use the term “time rich” in a sentence but I do, regularly. Of course this means different things to different people but I prefer to make do with less (material goods, holiday’s etc.) in order to spend time on the things that really matter to me.

The APDT’s tag line is “Building Better Trainers through Education” and this is what I am investing my energy into now and for the immediate future. It is my hope that my role of marketing, advertising and PR will allow me to help people and their companions communicate effectively. By utilising up to date learning techniques that are force free and focus on antecedents (what happens before a certain behaviour) rather that having to correct the fallout of unwanted behaviour. It is my hope for the future generation of trainers out there that they willingly commit to ongoing education. While I do not believe we need to “reinvent the wheel” when it comes to training, we certainly need to continue educating ourselves and our companions to live in a cohesive society.

After many years of denying the benefits of social media (mainly through the fear of “big brother is watching you” mentality on my part), I have finally put myself out there and I must say it’s kinda cool! That is one of the reasons I have not been blogging as well, I only have so much to say and it is now being posted on Facebook.

For me, the cornerstones of great relationships are the three steps I have outlined above.

GREETINGS

Without correct greeting rituals, there can be no conversation.

MANNERS

No one wants to deal with ill mannered individuals, no matter what species they are.

SOCIALISATION

The process of learning how to behave in a way that is acceptable to society.

If we truly want to live in a world free from pain and suffering, it is up to each individual to take a stand and be Personally Responsible for each and every moment of their existence. It is all to easy these days to “pass the buck” and make excuses for bad behaviour. Each generation has its issues to deal with but when we choose to have open minds and open hearts, we can achieve anything.

My blogs will probably be fewer for now on my website but be rest assured I am still out there trying my best to leave the world a better place than I found it.

How about you?
